OpenBioLab

OpenBioLab is a mobile bioanalysis laboratory that gives companies access to laboratory facilities and academic skills close to their own production. In collaboration with students, you can now gain access to OpenBioLab, where specialised equipment is at your disposal.

Many bio-based small and medium-sized companies do not have testing and development facilities to collect crucial data on their products themselves, and this can constitute a significant barrier to the development of their business.

Greater insight into products and processes

OpenBioLab is a semi-mobile bioanalysis laboratory. This means that OpenBioLab has a selection of analysis equipment that students may take with them to a company if there is a need to analyse samples close to production instead of in our laboratories. For example, students can test a product or a process that the company needs more insight into. The laboratory is primarily for companies in Region Zealand, but others are also welcome.

OpenBioLab focuses on companies that work with the development of products based on plant-based raw materials, e.g. food, food ingredients or products that utilise side streams from the production of food. OpenBioLab provides access to analyses and data that support e.g. quality control, development of new products or better utilisation of side streams, thereby gaining added value in the overall process at the company.

Companies can have assistance from students with, for example:

Initial characterisation of raw materials (e.g. protein content)
Characterisation of samples taken during manufacture in order to follow the process analytically
Analysis of side streams and their potential valuable constituents
Exploration of enzyme-based processes
Characterisation of fermentation processes

The laboratory is part of the Lighthouse Project for Biosolutions Zealand and supports the vision that Denmark should be a global beacon within biosolutions. OpenBioLab contributes to companies' competitiveness by developing and upscaling biotechnological products through quality data and strengthening collaboration with students and thus attracting qualified future employees.

equipment targeted development of data-driven process management, i.e. laboratory scale measuring equipment.
